A 23-year-old married woman from Maharashtra`s Palghar district, allegedly kidnapped and married off to another man in Rajasthan for Rs 2 lakh, has been rescued, police here said on Friday. One person has been arrested in the case while police were on the look-out for four others, said an official of the Arnala Sagari police station. One of the accused befriended the woman on Instagram some time ago and promised to get her a job with the police department, the official said.
He allegedly took her to Rajasthan and married her off to another person for Rs 2 lakh. (PTI)

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi will contest all elections in Maharashtra henceforth by showcasing the progress Telangana has made in nine years under Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, a minister of the southern state said on Friday. Speaking to PTI, Telangana Minister for Forests and Environment Indrakaran Reddy said CM Rao will address a "joiners` meeting" in Nanded, some 280 kilometres from here, on February 5. (PTI)

The Union Budget has allocated Rs 1,121.21 crore for various Metropolitan Transport Projects (MTPs) in Mumbai with a substantial 91 per cent increase in funds for the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). Out of Rs 1,121.21 crore for various MTPs (railway projects) in Mumbai, Rs 1,100 crore have been allocated for the MUTP alone. The allotment for MUTP was Rs 577 crore last year, railway officials said. Of the funds allocated for the MUTP in 2023-24, the highest Rs 650 crore would go to MUTP phase III, Rs 300 crore to phase IIIA and Rs 150 crore to phase II as per the Pink Book or the budget document made available on the Railway Board`s website on Friday. A dummy candidate has been arrested here for appearing for the online recruitment examination of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Assam Rifles in Maharashtra`s Aurangabad, police said on Friday. The exam for the posts of constable in the CAPF and rifleman in Assam Rifles was held in the city on Wednesday, an official of the CIDCO police station said. Officials overseeing the process found that a candidate appearing for the examination online from Shivgaon, Vaijapur was acting in a suspicious manner, he said. (PTI)
