The second girder of the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri has been levelled and the work of making the road on the girder has started. Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had reported that if the last pier on both approaches is completed by mid-February, then the project work can be completed by April-end (PICS/ASHISH RAJE)

<p>The BMC had closed the Gokhale bridge in November 2022, stating that it was in a dilapidated condition and assured that it would be completed by May 2023. So far, several deadlines set for the Gokhale bridge work have lapsed</p>

<p>Each girder is 13.5 metres wide (accommodating three lanes in each direction) with a 1-metre-wide walkway, and spans 90 metres in length. The girder weighs approximately 1,300 metric tonnes</p>
