According to the police, the Deonar police had received multiple complaints of lost or stolen mobile phones in 2023. The police began to trace the phones and were successful in not only tracing the phones but also recovering them
The police said, the senior police officials guided the team of officials to trace the lost or stolen mobile phone
The cops including police officials from Deonar Police and the cyber crime cell managed to use the technical clues to trace the phones
After the recovery of these mobile phones, the senior Mumbai police officials decided to hand them over back to their original owners, a police official said
The mobile phone owners were invited for the return of property program on Tuesday and they were given their phones back, the official said
Meanwhile, in July this year, the MIDC police had traced and recovered at least 100 mobile phones which were either lost or stolen during 2022-23, from different cities and states
The phones were recovered from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka and other places, and returned to their owners who had lodged complaints, an official had earlier said
In May, the Police in Maharashtra's Thane city had returned 711 mobile phones worth nearly Rs 1.28 crore that had been either stolen or lost to their owners, an official had earlier said
The devices were traced between January and April and police made the use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). CEIR is a portal of the Department of Telecommunications to trace lost or stolen mobile devices, an official said
