Madhu Lakeshegowda (28), a cab driver working for Anand, told MiD DAY that they had killed Poone as they were tired of being beaten up by his boys. "Poone's boys used to provoke us and look for a chance to attack us. We decided enough is enough and attacked them before they could," Madhu said. Madhu said one of his associates (Kumar) crushed Poone with a boulder. "I wanted to do it to avenge the humiliation and harassment, but before I could act, he did it," Madhu said as he writhed in pain. He said they were caught when they had stopped for a bite at a dhaba on Nelamangala Road. "We decided to escape from the city to our respective hometowns. I wanted to go to my hometown, Hassan, to take part in a fair, and I decided to get some clothes. That was a mistake. Had I gone straight away, I would have been safe by now," Madhu said.
