The Taj President will be transformed today. Not only because it's hosting the Indian Merchants' Chambers' Women Entrepreneurs exhibition, but also the throng the event usually draws. So, it's a good idea to drop by as early as possible for your Diwali gift shopping. Fifty-one women entrepreneurs will put their creations on display.

Between these ladies and four NGOs that are also taking part this year, stalls will stock everything from fashion accessories and exclusive designer-wear, to stationery, silverware and home accessories. The offering from NGO stalls includes ethnic, embroidered garments from Ahmedabad's Gramshree. And your Diwali gifts couldn't have a lovelier package than traditional, palm-leaf baskets from Chettinad, available here at the RM Cultural Foundation stall. Like Gramshree, this organisation also provides sustenance to disadvantaged women. Pick your diyas at the stall manned by the Cancer Patients Aid Association and you are certain to light up more lives than just your own.

There's no need to be on the lookout for NGO stalls alone, if you are immersed in the spirit of the season. Take Nina Roy's cushions, for instance. These have been made by physically and visually handicapped women that work out of Nina's home. You could also end up with mega-savings by picking up buys for the upcoming bridal season. Drop by at stalls that exhibit tunics by Divya Mohta, Parveez Agarwal's Parsi Gara sarees (Rs 25,000 onwards) and precious or semi-precious jewellery (from Hyderabad, Jaipur and even Bangkok). Eco-enthusiasts will love the funky Kokkommo bags designed in cane and jute. Nayntara Thacker's range of home linen, and customised photo-bags by Bhavna Jasra are must-check outs.
