Four people reportedly sustained minor injuries when a lift at the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Kamala Nehru Hospital fell in the morning yesterday. Around 15 people were inside the elevator at the time. A source from the institute said that the mishap occurred due to lack of maintenance of the lift. On the other hand, PMC officials are denying this accusation and maintain that no one was injured in the episode.

According to the civic body, the incident took place between 9.30 am and 10.00 am. “The accident took place in the morning, but no one was injured,” said ST Pardeshi, Medical Officer of Health (MOH), PMC.
But according to certain hospital officials, four persons were hurt in the occurrence, and were treated on OPD basis. “The lift is equipped to carry 15 people and that’s about the number of persons who were inside at the time. When the elevator was on the second floor, the pulley string broke, because of which the conveyor fell two floors,” Pardeshi informed.
This is the second time a lift has tumbled at the establishment -- the previous instance took place a year ago. Pardeshi confirmed that this was indeed the case, but denied that lack of maintenance was the cause.u00a0
