The BBMP plans on making Bangalore a pothole-free city by the New Year, this is the Palike officials call their gift to the city.
Less than three weeks ago, the grand total stood at approximately 9,000. Since then, the number has come down to about 6,000 potholes, if figures provided by the civic body are accurate.
This time with no one to blame, not even the monsoons or the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) like they did the last time, the BBMP has missed yet another deadline.
A K Gopal Swamy, BBMP's engineer-in-chief, said, "We no longer have a problem with the BWSSB. Sand and quarry dust will now be used to fill up the potholes."
S Somashekar, chief engineer (East), said, "Work has been delayed because of the heavy rains. But work in this zone should be completed by the New Year."
B T Ramesh, chief engineer (West), said, "We'll finish it by month end. We keep identifying new potholes everyday, the real problems are indeed the rains."
Ananth Swamy, chief engineer (South), said, "Most areas have been covered. Another week from now, it should be complete."
