Boom despite the gloom

Business centres offer instant offices, which makes them a sound proposition in hard times, says Vanita Bhandari, director of DBS Corporate Services

When it comes to entrepreneurship, women have time and again proved their capabilities. Vanita Bhandari is a case in point.

As director of DBS Corporate Services, Vanita has taken the number of business centres from 400 to 600 across the world.

She has been closely involved in the setting up of the DBS centre on Cunningham Road in Bangalore's central business district.

Profits on my mind: Vanita Bhandari explains why recession is an opportunity for business centres

"Business Centres offer instant offices to clients for a period ranging from a few hours to days, weeks or months. These instant offices provide space, furniture and other support services like secretarial and communication assistance, travel arrangements, high speed internet and more. While clients typically use the services of a business centre for a few months, one of themu00a0 stayed in the same cabin for 11 years," she says.
Worthy inheritor
Having inherited the business from her father Shamsunder Aggarwal, who started the Diners Clubu00a0 credit card franchise, she is determined the grow the business and take it to new heights.

"My father wanted to set up a club for business people. He intended to provide enhanced services to his Diners Club credit cardholders. The idea expanded to include comprehensive business services on a pay-by-use basis," she says.u00a0

Over the years, she has set up new centres at Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkota and Hyderabad.

"When it comes to business, Mumbai tops the list closely followed by Bangalore. The IT sector has made Bangalore an attractive destination for us," she adds.

Brave words
"Recession has not really affected my business. In a way business is steady because people who were planning to invest heavily in land and buildings for their own offices are now using business centres," she says.
