3 robbers held with gold, diamonds stolen from trader's house. One of the thieves had mimicked woman's voice during robbery

This jewel thief had almost fooled his way to safety by acquiring a woman's voice during the robbery of a businessman's house. But he couldn't fool the cops and was arrested along with his accomplices on Tuesday.

On November 29, robbers targeted a businessman's house in Nazafgarh. After locking the two servants of the house inside a room, the assailants decamped with jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh and cash amounting to a few lakh.

The two servants, in their statement to the police said while they were locked in the room, they had heard the voice of a woman who was guiding the robbers to places inside the house where the jewellery was kept. The Delhi Police had handed over the strange case to its Crime Branch.

On Tuesday, the police received a tip-off that a few men who were involved in the robbery will be assembling near the Metro station at Dwarka Sector 9 to share the booty.

The cops laid a trap and arrested three persons and recovered gold and diamonds amounting to 800 gram and 1.5 kg silver worth Rs 15 lakh. The three led the police to their fourth accomplice who was arrested from Dwarka Sector 1.

The four have been identified as Santosh Ram alias Jangli, 25, Santosh alias Sumit Kumar, 32, Radhey Shyam alias Mukesh Chaudhary, 20, Rahul Amin alias Mohd Amin, 28.

Mystery voice

During interrogations it was revealed that one of the accused, Santosh was an associate of one Ajay, who had worked as a driver with the businessman's family. Ajay had also worked as a domestic help and was familiar with the house and the places where valuables and cash were kept. Santosh lured him into the plan of robbing the house and roped in six others for the job. On November 29, when the victim along with his family left the house to attend a marriage, Ajay informed the other gang members who were waiting nearby. One of them, Rahul Amin, armed with a loaded pistol scaled the boundary wall of the house and opened the rear gate. After entering the house, the assailants locked the servants in a store room. Then Ajay entered the house and in a woman's voice guided others to the booty. "To avoid being identified and trick the police into assuming that a woman was involved in the robbery, Ajay changed his voice and spoke loudly so that the two servants could hear him," said a police official who is part of the investigating team.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Neeraj Thakur, said cops were searching for the other gang members.
