WHAT's ON dropped in at Kiva Lounge's new Oriental restaurant, a must visit if you are in the mood for Burmese or Korean khana
The latest eatery to set shop at Karve Nagar is Xia Restaurant and Bar. Named after the famous Xia dynasty of China, it is the oriental branch of Kiva Lounge. Their extensive menu includes Burmese, Thai, Chinese, Korean and Malaysian cuisine.
Ambience: The eatery is spacious and has an oriental feel to it. The walls are coloured in red and gold and there is soft music playing in the background. The cane furniture, statues and wooden lanterns are all imported from Indonesia. You can opt to either sit outside in the garden to enjoy the gentle breeze or sit indoors for a formal dinner. The place is perfect for a relaxed family gathering or to catch up with friends.
We tried: The menu gives an elaborate description of the dishes on offer. The Roasted Chilly Chicken (Rs 150), which comes on a banana leaf, was well-presented and tasted delicious. It is made from tender chicken pieces sautu00e9ed in soya sauce and accompanied by herbs, onions, garlic and bell peppers. For the main course, we opted for the Thai Chilly Rice Chicken (Rs 150) and Hunani Simply Oriental Chicken in Black Bean Sauce (Rs 175). The quantity of Thai Chilly Rice is sufficient for two and makes for a perfect dinner. The Simply Oriental is a mildly-spicy gravy-based dish, which you can get sautu00e9ed in the flavour of your favourite sauce, be it ginger, pepper or black bean. We chose the black bean sauce and loved the spicy chicken strips tossed with basil and capsicum. All the items in the menu are quite affordable and they are generous in quantity.
Service: The waiters are very helpful in choosing the dishes and are perpetually at your beck and call.
