In a freak accident that took place yesterday morning, Wing Commander Pratik Sharma (31), a native of Bhopal, lost his life while three others sustained serious injuries.

In a freak accident that took place yesterday morning, Wing Commander Pratik Sharma (31), a native of Bhopal, lost his life while three others sustained serious injuries.

The accident took place near Chikkajala on the Bangalore International Airport Ltdu00a0 (BIAL) road. So severe was the impact that Sharma, who was on his way to the airport, died on the spot.

Basha Sab, the ACP (traffic- northeast), said, "When Sharma reached Chikkajala traffic signal, he thought there wouldn't be many vehicles coming from the other side, as it was early morning, and jumped the signal.

As soon as he crossed the signal, a milk van came in front of him. He lost control over the vehicle and was hit by a lorry behind him."

Those in Sharma's vehicle were seriously injured. They were admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital. Traffic Police Inspector Umadevi,u00a0 of the Chikkajala Police Station, said, "We are waiting for Sharma's parents. As soon as they arrive, we will do the postmortem."

In another accident, Sidramappa, a cop with the Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station, lost his life at Hegde Nagar. Sidramappa was on his way home on his two-wheeler when a speeding taxi hit him.
