Three India Against Corruption (IAC) activists were arrested yesterday by the Deccan Gymkhana police station officials for assembling illegally and holding a rally on July 25 to support social crusader Anna Hazare's agitation for Jan Lokpal Bill in Delhi.

The officials had then issued prohibiotry orders against holding the rally. The activists condemned their arrest and said the police officials took them in custody without them violating any of the laws.

Officials arrested IAC co-coordinator Deepak Bharadia, Ranee Karunakarn and Jagannath Hendre and were produced in the JMFC Court in Shivajinagar yesterday itself.
While Karunkaran was released after he signed a personal bond, Bharadia and Hendre, who refused to sign the bonds, were remanded in a five-day magisterial custody in Yerawada Central Jail. Their case will be heard today.
“The three IAC activists were arrested under Section 37 (1) (3) of CrPC and Sections 135 and 188 of the IPC for violating prohibitory orders of assembling illegally at a public place, and holding a rally without prior permission,” Senior Police Inspector of Deccan Gymkhana Police Station Manohar Joshi said.
On asked about the delay in taking action against the trio, Joshi said Bharadia was in Germany and they were unaware of the addresses of the other two IAC members.u00a0
