Monsoon-er rather than later
So, we are moving towards a season of dark clouds, potholed roads, challenging commutes and flooded areas that may lead to all kinds of disease, including dengue.

Monsoon is the time when you read headlines like, 'Man broke leg because of pothole', or 'Child falls into manhole, rescued'.
Morbidity and negativity aside, there are some, one-for-the-photo-album moments as Mumbai gets ready for the monsoon.
At first glance, these two pictures may look disconnected (because what do salt and cycles have in common besides the alliteration?).

Finding blue
Ever since the afternoon this diarist spotted him perched upon a wired railing along the railway track wall, the eyes scan the branches, overhead wires and walls between Elphinston and Lower Parel Station.
Twice lucky, the time is always noted, hoping that the meeting will recur at the same time the next day.
Usually, the train ride commences at noon. The scorching sun overhead and the dull surroundings make it easy to him. But common kingfishers are a sensitive lot.
Thank God for their royal blue coat, which makes them easy to see once in a while.
All fall down
The rains claimed a four-wheeler. Fortunately there was nobody in the car when a tree fell on a car parked near old Prabhadevi Mandir On Friday night post midnight. The Prabhadevi Road was blocked as the tree lay across half the road early Saturday. The fire department cleared the road at 7 am, but the remnants lay about even a few hours later.

One heard that the authorities were waiting for the garden department to clear it. Meanwhile, the smashed car stood attest to nature's sudden fury. The tree seemed to be uprooted and keeled over with force.
The bustling lane, well-known for Sarang Bandhu vada pav and playing host to the annual Prabhadevi fair, was abuzz. Bystanders took pictures, made small talk and the overall sentiment was of relief that no one was injured. All in a morning's work.
