Rahul Gandhi may be taking his calls again, but the matter of who stole the Congress MP's mobile phone last week at the Delhi airport, still remains shrouded in mystery.
However, the Delhi police didn't register a case in the matter, ironically, considering the sensitivity of the issue.
And probably for that very same reason, the media has failed to trace the culprit so far. There at least 50 cases of mobile theft in the Capital every day, but very few are reported and even fewer are resolved.
But, in this case, as soon as the matter came to light, security agencies went into a tizzy, as if dealing with a terror attack and the cellphone was recovered within hours.
No official has yet confirmed that this incident ever happened. Analysts say the perpetrator was extremely unlucky as he didn't realise whose mobile he was stealing.
Even the private firm, in which the accused was working as a baggage handler at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, denied having any clues about him. The police too say they have no details on where the accused has disappeared.
The incident was reported on the night of June 25 when Rahul had arrived from London on an Emirates flight after his Europe visit.
He was there to celebrate his birthday that falls on June 19.
UP IN THE AIR |
Rahul Gandhi had to shuttle from one runway to another for over half an hour on the afternoon of June 17 at the IGI Airport due to the practice of asking even big long-haul planes to take off from the smallest runway even in extremely hot and windy days. The young leader was aboard Virgin Atlantic's flight VS 301 (on his way to Europe) that reached the take-off point of the smallest runway (27) at 2.45pm. But a combination of very high temperature and strong tail winds forced the pilot to abandon take-off. |
