Bollywood actor Nana Patekar plays a police officer in his first Kannada movie, the Yogish-starrer Yaksha. With him in a side role is Girish Mattennavar, a former sub-inspector, who is also known as Bomb SI, since he planted a bomb in the Legislator's Home in 2003.

"Gangubai is my grandmother. Nana was a great fan of her. Once, when he came to Hubli to see her, I met him and told him that I was related to her. He became extremely fond of me," said Mattennavar, who interprets the script for Nana. Nana writes Kannada dialogue in Hindi, and Mattennavar coaches him with the pronunciation.

Nana has become confident enough with Kannada to use his own voice in the film. "Acting in language films is an entirely enriching experience. I can follow the language now. However, I want to deliver the dialogue correctly. Girish is of great help," said Nana.

Nana would often paste the dialogue on the chest of Mattennavar -- a practice made famous by Hollywood legend Marlon Brando. Mattennavar, who is the chairman of Kanterava studios, said he never told Nana about his planting a bomb. "I was tongue tied in his presence. I could not gather the courage to engage him in casual talk for the four days I shot with him. I just did not get the time to talk to him about my adventures," Mattennavar said.
