Rakhi's Swayamwar? Whatever!

Most of the experts we spoke to are sure that there's no reason to get so worked up about the show popular for all the wrong reasons

First, it was about her show 'Rakhi Sawant'su00a0 Swayamvar', and then about Rakhi getting engaged instead of married, and now it's about her and her fiance being in yet another reality show.

Did the audience really expect Rakhi Sawant to marry an unknown person?

Beauty and the beast: Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi herself has sent out conflicting statements. One moment, she says she's gotten over her past and is in love with Elesh. Then she says she cannot trust Elesh and she hasn't yet gotten over Abhishek. So, what really is it all about, apart from being merely Rakhiish?

Swarnalatha Iyer, consultant psychologist said, "The whole thing is a publicity stunt, there cannot be a psychological take on this issue as it is very evident that everyone on the show knows what they are doing. Come on, Rakhi was paid a whopping Rs 4 crore to do the show."

"I'm sure the guy would have known what he was doing; he walked into it with his eyes wide open. I personally did not watch the show but people I know who did, said that it was fun watching the show."

So, will audiences feel cheated if Rakhi backs out of the relationship? Or is it okay for her to go ahead and step down? And what of the psychological repercussions on Elesh?

Dr. Ali Khwaja, Social Counselor says, "One cannot really comment on this unless we know the inside story. As far as the groom is concerned, if he was brought in after being briefed on the possible outcome of the show and was prepared for both the best and the worst situation, then it is fine. I can definitely say that people are taking the show at face value and it seems that audiences are aware of the fact that the show is an entertainer. The show has not had any negative impact on the audience."

'Survival of the fittest' is the motto in any industry and all of us have heard about how difficult it is to survive in the film industry. So are these reality shows just a publicity stunt?

Anita Kholay, a designer, definitely thinks so. "The field that she is in demands this that is how one survives in the film industry. For someone like Rakhi Sawant, who is an item girl, this is the only way for her to get a stand in the industry. Now everyone knows who is Rakhi Sawant, even though they do not watch the show."

Kholay added that even if only half the crowd supports her and the other half opposes her, by the end of it all people will know who Rakhi Sawant is, and that is all that matters.

"I'm sure no man would blindly marry someone, unless it is Aishwarya Rai. The guy did not walk into this with his eyes closed I'm sure," she said.

It seems that just about everyone is convinced that Rakhi Sawant's reality show is just another entertainer.

They seem to be sure that theu00a0 events that surround the show are just publicity stunts.
