Technician suffocates to death in faulty lift

Krishnakant Jha (48) reached Pratik Building in Thakur Complex at 3.30 to fix a lift that was not functioning for the past two days. He proceeded to the lift room on the fifth floor and is assumed to have taken the lift to the first floor, where it appears to have got stuck.

Jha was missing for a while and the building watchman peeped into the lift at around 4 pm and saw him lying motionless on the floor. The watchman immediately informed the residents after he failed to get any response from Jha. The elevator door was then forced open. The Samtanagar police were informed and they rushed Jha to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

While police feel Jha may have suffocated after being trapped in the lift, they are waiting the autopsy report before reaching a conclusion. Jha was a resident of Poisar in Kandivli (W) and is survived by his wife.u00a0
