Environment conscious techies' groups and other enthusiasts have done their bit for the city, and now Bangalore's artist fraternity is all set to keep the momentum going by saying no to plastic through a unique platform.
At 'Swarataranga', a music concert to mark veteran singer and composer Dr C Ashwath's 70 years of singing on Sunday at APS college grounds, they will pledge not to use plastic.
They plan to make the pledge their gift to Ashwath.
Besides starting off with the campaign to reduce use of plastic in the city, the celebration itself will be eco-friendly.u00a0 "Swarataranga, a concert that pays tribute to Dr C Ashwath, will be a unique event in many respects," said M S Shankar Prasad, one of the organisers. "Artists from various media will pledge to give up, or at least minimise, plastic use. This will be our gift to him."u00a0
Kannada television and film artists who will gather at Swarataranga to pay tribute to Ashwath will do what Samraksha, a team of techies, has been doing. More than 50 celebrities from Kannada television and films, including director Yograj Bhat, director T S Nagabharana, director and producer Nagathihalli Chandrashekar and actors Jayanti and Devraj, are expected to be present.u00a0
They will also talk on environment issues, and pass on mantras like 'one house, one tree', 'reduce pollution' and 'carry your own bag'. The artists organising the event also plan to distribute over 10,000 saplings to visitors.
