Five years after a scam hit the University of Pune&rsquo;s (UoP) recruitment drive for hiring non-teaching staff, the varsity has now decided to fill the vacant posts. Soon after the scam was unearthed in 2008, the state banned recruitment at all the state-public universities. Out of the total 1,235 non-teaching posts in class 1, class 2 and class 3 at the UoP, 385 posts are lying vacant. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/mar/PN04B091001.png" style="width: 500px; height: 335px;" /> File Pic UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr W N Gade said, &ldquo;The university will be giving an advertisement in the next 15 days and the vacant posts will be filled in the next three months.&rdquo; Dr Sanjeev Sonavne, senior management and council member of UoP, said the scam and the subsequent inquiries stalled the recruitment procedure. &ldquo;The state too imposed restrictions on fresh recruitments. It wasn&rsquo;t until recently that the government gave a green signal to fill all the vacant posts,&rdquo; Sonavne said. Some of the posts that would be filled during the recruitment drive include that of an assistant registrar and a deputy registrar. These two are key positions in speeding up the administrative work of the UoP. Apart from lack of hiring, the university has been facing manpower shortage as 200 of its employees have been assigned various government duties like election or census. &ldquo;We are taking up the issue with the government and would be requesting it to minimise the number for smooth functioning of the varsity,&rdquo; Gade said. He added that all the new recruits would be employed on a permanent-basis, as per the state&rsquo;s approval. Last year, the UoP decided to discontinue services of all the employees working on a temporary-basis.u00a0
