The real fun, for many amongst us, is not in the comfy set up of a multiplex or that of a lavish restro-bar.

There are men and women who like braving taxing terrains, wild weather and tough conditions.

What makes summer the best time to ride is that the roads to several destinations, like Ladakh and Kunzum Pass, open only around late May. So, now's the best time to get your bird all set.

High, not Dry: Delhi-based bikers' gang Team 456 is taking its members on a 15-day trip to Ladakh. "Any weather is good for bike rides.

Ladakh, which is a dream destination for any biker, is known to challenge your appetite for adventure, but the problem is that the roads to Ladakh remain closed for most of the year.

So when it opens for two-three months, we just want to rush," says spokesperson Srijith.

Another prominent motorcycle group, 78MM Adventures, has planned a motorcycle and jeep rally To The Forbidden Land to Kinnaur, Spiti and Laul.

"If you plan to come along, expect an unexpected climate. It's a task to hold on to the steering when the sun is harsh.

If you remove all the challenges of mountain biking or jeep safaris, where will the adrenaline rush come from? It's not for those who like their air-conditioned offices...it's for those who believe that bikes are their best buddies," forewarns Jeet, founder, 78MM Adventures.u00a0u00a0

Support Bhi Hai: A competitive team of medicos and mechanics escorts the teams, to counter any adverse situation that might crop up.

"We also have a van that carries extra supplies of fuel and eatables. There has to be a plan for the entire trip," explains Jeet.

'Cost' Away: The price varies according to the duration of the trip, and the kind of facilities that will be arranged. For an eight-day trip, expect a Rs 16,000 expenditure, including accommodation, fuel and food.

If you carry a personal tent, you may reduce on the accommodation front, but it's advisable to arrange a proper place to stay unless you like to cry out in pain. Sticking together always works better.

Hitting the road? Keep these things in mind
