Andhra Pradesh rain fury: 17 killed, over 100 missing; IAF carries out rescue operations

After the heavy wreaked havoc in three Rayalaseema districts and one south coastal district in Andhra Pradesh , at least 17 have died and 100 have gone missing, reported NDTV. The Indian Air Force has joined the local authorities in relief and rescue operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy over phone and enquired about the situation and promised all help to the state.
Swollen rivers and rivulets caused a huge deluge in the districts, cutting off roads at some places and throwing life out of gear.

In neighbouring Anantapuramu district, 10 people stranded in the Chitravati river flood at Veldurthi village were rescued by the Indian Air Force personnel, who specially flew in from Yelahanka Air Force Station in Karnataka.

The Indian Coast Guard Station Krishnapatnam deployed two flood-relief teams in Nellore district recently for augmenting flood relief operations and render assistance to the stranded personnel in Kollagatala Village amid heavy rains across the state, said a press release from the Coast Guard.

In another incident, three persons, including two children were killed when an under-construction building collapsed due to heavy rains in Kadiri town of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Rescue work was on to save six persons trapped under the rubble, officials said.
