To protest against an attack on a flying squad of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Nanded, the RTO in the city observed a bandh yesterday. RTO officials said the bandh would continue till the culprits were put behind bars.
An RTO flying squad from Panvel comprising of two inspectors and a driver had gone to Nanded to take action against overloaded heavy vehicles, but was attacked by a mob of unknown people.
RTO inspector Vijay Sawant was injured in the attack and admitted to a private hospital in Nanded. “Another inspector, Sunil Kshirsagar, sustained minor injuries,” Deputy RTO Sanjay Dhaygude said. “Both are out of danger now. We have lodged complaints, but the culprits haven’t been identified yet.”
