Lived in shared room in Modikhana during student days

A DAY after the arrest of Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig, authorities at the college he attended in the city distanced themselves from their former student.

Baig was arrested from the city on Tuesdayu00a0 in the German Bakery blast case.

According to authorities at the Shasakiya Urdu Adhyapak Mahavidyala, Baig completed his DEd in 2005 from the college, which is located on the Azam Campus.

According to the ATS, during his stay in the city Baig drifted towards fanatic ideology after he came in contact with Mohsin Chaudhary and Riyaz Bhatkal.

In contrast to the records with the college authorities, ATS sources said while pursuing DEd, Baig was sharing a room at Modikhana in Pulgate ufffd the same area where he was picked up from 10 years ago.

College authorities said they were asked by the Azam Campus to cooperate with the police if they wanted any information on students.

P A Inamdar, president of MCE, said: "Baig was not a student of Azam Campus. He was studying at the Urdu College located on the campus and run by the state government. The college has hired the land from the trust."

The current in-charge of Baig's college, R U Shadwani, who took the charge of the DEd college an year after Baig graduated, said: "I don't know him as I joined after he left the college, and besides every year 30 new students take admission, so it is difficult to remember each one of them."

A teacher at the DEd college said: "Only after the reports were published in newspapers that Baig had studied at our college did we recheck the records and found out that he was a student here between 2003-05.
