Key BJP allies — TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar CM and JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar —on Friday endorsed PM Narendra Modi as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance with a message to balance regional aspirations and national interests.


Speaking at the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting here, BJP allies JD(S) leader H D Kumarswamy, Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, NCP chief Ajit Pawar, HAM(S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi among others supported the proposal moved by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to elect Modi as the leader of the NDA.


“Balancing regional aspirations and national interests must run parallelly while ensuring holistic development for all strata of society,” Naidu said. Naidu said Modi’s rallies in Andhra Pradesh helped TDP win 16 seats in Lok Sabha polls.  


“Today, India is having the right leader at the right time, that is Narendra Modi. This is a very good opportunity for India. If you miss now, you will miss forever. That is why we are having a wonderful opportunity today,” Naidu said.

Modi to take oath on Sunday: Joshi 

Narendra Modi will take oath as PM for the third time, senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi said here at the NDA parliamentary party meeting. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at 6 pm, Joshi told the NDA leaders assembled here at the Central Hall of the old Parliament Building to elect Modi as their leader. Besides NDA MPs, senior leaders of the alliance, including chief ministers, were present for the meeting where J P Nadda is expected to propose a resolution in support of Modi’s leadership.

Modi meets BJP veterans ahead of oath

PM Narendra Modi met BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi at their residences here on Friday, before staking claim to form the government at the Centre for a third consecutive term. Modi visited Advani soon after being chosen as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party, leader of the BJP parliamentary party and leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha. After meeting Advani, he went to the residence of Joshi, a former president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Modi later called on the President of India Droupadi Murmu for staking claim to form the government.  

Modi vows unity, NDA prioritises nation

PM Narendra Modi said he would strive to ensure unanimity in all decisions of his next government and asserted that the NDA is an organic alliance committed to the principle of ‘nation first’. Chosen by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance as its leader to become prime minister for the third time, Modi also said the NDA government in the next 10 years will focus on good governance, development, quality of life and minimum interference in the lives of common citizens.
