New Friends Colony businessman attacked by armed assailants
They saw a golden opportunity and took it. Three armed criminals attacked and robbed a businessman of 1.25 kg of gold in New Friends Colony area of south Delhi on Tuesday morning.A senior police official confirmed the incident and said that the crime was committed by bike-borne assailants. An FIR has been registered with NFC police station in this regard.
The victim has been identified as Rakesh Aggarwal, a resident of Sarita Vihar. He deals in gold jewellery.
"Rakesh left his home for to meet one of his clients. He was carrying a bag containing 1.25kg of gold. Rakesh came near Ashram flyover to hire an auto-rickshaw when a man pushed him from behind. The culprit snatched the bag from his hands.
When Rakesh resisted and tried to raise an alarm, the perpetrator trained a gun on him. Meanwhile, his two accomplices came on a bike and fled with the gold," said the senior police official.
The police said that it was around 6 am when they received a call from the businessman. Rakesh claimed that the robbers held captive the auto-rickshaw driver and him at gun-point, threatening them of dire consequences.
Police officials close to the investigation said that preliminary probe suggests that the robbers had pre-planned to rob the victim."They knew that Rakesh will come near Ashram flyover with the bag containing the gold. The robbers did not ask him to hand over his other valuables like the jewllery he was wearing and cash. We are sure that persons known to the victim are involved in this," said a senior police official, adding that further investigations in the matter are on.
