The tanker carrying about 15 tonnes of propylene gas started leaking at the Urse toll plaza, Talegaon, when an automated bar fell on it breaking one its valves around 9 pm. Taking no chances, the authorities decided to divert the traffic to the old Pune-Mumbai highway from the Kivale village. The Hinjewadi fire station was informed about the leakage following which a team of firefighters was sent to the spot to check the leakage. Experts from the Chakan and Taloja plants of Bharat Petroleum were called in for help. When the experts could not stop the leakage completely, they emptied the tanker and transferred the remaining gas into another tanker. According to the police, the tanker was headed for the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Taloja.
