From September 22, athletes' contingents will start arriving and teams of the Games Organising Committee have started staying at the Village to get a real picture of facilities there. The major worry for the city administration remains the four metres of water, which has accumulated in the open fields around Games Village. "In these situations we have to tie-up with other agencies to help clean up the area, we do not have the expertise to deal with it," said, VK Monga, Chairman, Health Committee, MCD. The city administration has asked for the army's help to drain out water from the vicinity of and fog the area to prevent mosquito breeding. Six lakh cusecs of water was released last Wednesday by Haryana which caused flashfloods in the river. The authorities have started pumping out water from the open area near the venue. Several rounds of fumigation and spraying of insecticides have already been carried out. However, due to the current flooding, there could be more mosquito-breeding in the open fields adjoining the Games Village. The only respite is that the water level in the Yamuna began receding on Sunday, slightly improving the situation in low-lying areas along its banks. But the river continues to flow above the danger mark with nearly 4,000 people still staying in relief camps. Though the situation has marginally improved, some fresh localities in east Delhi faced waterlogging due to heavy rains that lashed various parts of the city on Sunday. The water level of the river came down to 205.88 metres at 8 pm on Sunday. It had touched 206.78 metres the previous evening, 1.95 metres above the danger mark of 204.83 metre, officials said. Haryana released around 40,000 cusecs of water on Sunday and officials said, as water discharge from Hathni ka Kund Barrage has gone down, the situation will become better in the coming days. IMD officials said rains would continue at least for this week in Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana.u00a0 Logjam For Delhiites, heavy showers brought traffic jams, waterlogged roads and building collapse incidents. Traffic jams were reported from many areas, though it being a Sunday, there were less vehicles on the roads. Traffic movement was slow due to heavy waterlogging on Rama Road in Najafgarh, Moti Nagar, Jakhira, New Rohtak Road, Kamal T-point to Karol Bagh, Model Town I and II to Azadpur, Sarai Pipal Thala to GTK Depot and Ashok Vihar T-point and near Kashmere Gate Metro station, traffic police said.
