Delhi: Lift collapses at Karol Bagh restaurant; 10 rescued

As many as 10 people were rescued after being trapped in the lift of a restaurant-cum-bar in Delhi's Karol Bagh area when it collapsed on Monday, the ANI reported.


According to officials, information about the incident was received early Monday at 6:30 am. stating that ten people had been trapped in a lift after it collapsed at a restaurant bar in the Old Rajendra Place area of Karol Bagh, as per the ANI.


The officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) along with three fire tenders rushed to the site after receiving the information.


After a three-hour-long operation, the fire service officials rescued all ten people by cutting the roof of the lift.

As per officials, none of the people trapped were injured or harmed, the news agency reported on Monday.

The reason for the lift collapse is yet to be ascertained and further investigation were going on, an official said.

Further details on the matter are awaited.

Meanwhile, in an another incident in Mumbai, a 38-year-old individual lost his life due to a wall collapse at Colaba on Sunday. He was a passer-by.

Another person, Gangadhar Akla, received  minor injuries.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Akbar, the officials said. 

According to a disaster control room report by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the compound wall on an open plot and public road at INS Kunjali collapsed during water pipeline repair work at 2.48 pm on Sunday afternoon, near Miyan Chawl, close to Gazali Dargah, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Cuffe Parade. The incident resulted in the trapping of two people and four to five vehicles under debris.

Two individuals sustained injuries and were transported to INS Ashwini Hospital by passers-by in a private vehicle before the Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived. Mohammad Akbar was declared dead by the doctor upon arrival. On the other hand, Gangadhar Akla, who was injured, received treatment and has been discharged from the hospital.

“For the past several days, the sound of drilling has been coming from the compound. Children also walk on this road. But, there was no security,” said an eyewitness and Miyan Chawl resident.
