Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday expressed concern over the prolonged disruption of Parliament, alleging that the ruling party was responsible for the deadlock and warning that such a situation posed a serious threat to democracy, reported ANI.

Speaking at a public event in Pune, the veteran leader said, “The picture of the country has changed. The Parliament session has been running for 14 days, but proceedings have been stalled throughout. We go, mark our attendance, and the moment the House begins, chaos erupts and the session is adjourned. This has never happened before. When those in power themselves obstruct Parliament, it weakens democracy.”

Pawar said the Opposition was left with no choice but to adopt an unprecedented course of action after being repeatedly denied the chance to raise important issues. “To change this situation, we all met in Delhi. Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and other leaders were present. We decided that if the ruling party continues to stall Parliament and misuse power, we must take a united stand. For the first time in history, 300 MPs staged a disciplined, peaceful protest. We were detained, but it was all for one purpose, to safeguard democracy and preserve the parliamentary system,” he said, reported ANI.
