Bangloreans perform 11-day ritual to overcome the curse they believe is responsible for the floods and loss of lives

As Karnataka and Bangalore grapple with the floods that have claimed 197 lives in the state, some Bangaloreans are seeking divine intervention to get over the crisis. Residents of Richmond Town and Shanthinagar Business Welfare Association are performing rituals and praying to the gods for the well being of the flood victims.

Prominent city businessmen too are participating in the 11-day rituals that began on Monday at the Shanthinagar playground.

"We started the rituals in the wake of the recent rains. We are also collecting funds, food and clothes for the victims," said Ramesh Yadav, president, Richmond Town and Shanthinagar Business Welfare Association, which is known for its unique rituals to tackle issues like terrorism and swine flu.
