India-US trade agreement: An explainer

The US has agreed to cut tariffs on Indian goods to 18 percent from 25 percent under a new trade deal announced by President Donald Trump after talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. US President Donald Trump has said that India and the US have agreed on a trade deal under which Washington will bring down reciprocal tariff on Indian goods to 18 per cent from the current 25 per cent. The announcement is important as the US has imposed a steep 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods entering American markets from August 27, 2025.
