Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley has resigned as general secretary of the party in keeping with the tradition of "one man, one post".

Jaitley had been appointed leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha. "This is part of the BJP's policy of one man, one post," said party spokesperson Nalin Kohli.

The move comes three days after senior leader Yashwant Sinha quit from all party posts, including national vice president.
