Unable to bear being seperated, couple commits suicide after girl's parents find a match and fix marriage date

A young couple facing their parent's disapproval of their relationship, committed suicide within hours of each other yesterday.

Bhargavi (19), a first semester student and Shivakumar Naik (22), a final semester student were both studying at Nalini Raghunath Degree College in the city, but had known each other since Pre University College.

Recently, Bhargavi's parents arranged her marriage to another person and the tentative date for the wedding was set for March 13. Bhargavi attended college yesterday morning, but soon fell unconscious on campus. Her friends took her to a near by hospital where she told doctors that she consumed sleeping tablets at around 9 am.

She was later shifted to Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital for further treatment, but was pronounced dead shortly after. Shivakumar was in college when he heard of Bhargavi's death, following which he immediately went home and hanged himself at around 12.20 pm. A complaint has been registered at Bannerghatta police station and the police are investigating.
