A 54-year-old man died after he was slapped by a State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) jawan during an argument over the latter's car headlight in Nagpur city, an official told news agency PTI on Sunday.

The incident took place at Mata Mandir area under Wathoda police station on Thursday night when accused Nikhil Gupta (30) arrived there to visit his sister. When Gupta was parking his car, the vehicle's headlight beam struck the face of victim Muralidhar Ramraoji Neware, a resident of the same locality, the official told PTI.

Neware apparently politely told Gupta to readjust the light beam but the SRPF jawan got angry, leading to an altercation between the two. Neware collapsed to the ground after Gupta slapped him hard. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital but died on Saturday, the official told PTI.

The police have registered a case against Gupta under Indian Penal Code section 304 (homicide not amounting to murder), the official added.

In another incident, thieves looted Rs 39 lakh by cutting open cash boxes of two ATMs with gas cutters in Nagpur district of Maharashtra in separate incidents, police told news agency PTI on Sunday.

In the first incident, two men arrived on a motorcycle in Dongargaon area in Hingna police station's jurisdiction on Friday night. One of them entered the ATM of a national bank with a cloth covering his face. He used a gas cutter and cut open the cash box to take away Rs 24 lakh and escaped, an official told news agency PTI.

In another incident, two thieves targeted the ATM of a private bank in Butibori area of Nagpur city and took away Rs 15 lakh cash in a similar manner also on Friday night, reported PTI.

Police suspect that the same gang of thieves might be involved in both incidents. Cases have been registered at two police stations under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the official told PTI.

Meanwhile, the police in Maharashtra's Latur district have traced a 17-year-old girl nearly 7 months after she was "kidnapped" and arrested the man she was living with, an official said on Sunday.

The teen went missing from Nilanga tehsil following which the police registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 363 (kidnapping) on a complaint by her kin.
