Maharashtra Budget: Water transport to be developed around Mumbai

Sewage water treatment plants are planned at Worli, Bandra, Dharavi, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Versova and Malad in Mumbai at an expected cost of Rs 19,500 crore.

Waterways around Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai will be developed for transport and the first phase of the project will link Vasai and Kalyan, Maharashtra Finance Minister Ajit Pawar said while presenting the budget for 2021-22 on Monday. Speaking in the Assembly, Pawar said jetties will be constructed at Kolshet, Kalher, Dombivli and Mira-Bhayandar.

"The government has decided to utilize the waterways around Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai for the purpose of water transport. Vasai to Kalyan water transport service will be made available in the first phase," Pawar said.
