Incident at busy marketplace in east Delhi

Snatching is an everyday occurrence in the Capital. People take notice depending upon the profile of the victim.

At 8 pm on Monday, Suman Vaidya, wife of Trilokpuri MLA Sunil Vaidya, was having a bottle of soft drinks at Acharya Niketan area of east Delhi.

Suddenly, a person allegedly attacked her with a blade. He then snatched away her purse, containing some cash and a mobile phone. The victim immediately raised an alarm but the attacker disappeared in the crowd. Suman then called the police.

Trilokpuri MLA Sunil Vaidya alleged that this was the third time when miscreants have attacked him or a member of his family, because he is continuously opposing illegal activities in the area.

"I have been opposing betting and other unlawful pursuits in the area. The attacker was so desperate that he attacked in peak hours on Monday at the market when there is no space to even walk," said Sunil. Fortunately the victim didnaat suffer serious injuries. A complaint has been filed with the local police station.
"We have received a complaint about the incident and are investigating the matter," said a police officer.
