The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to ban all plastic bags, no matter what the micron level, at all civic buildings, including hospitals and markets, from today.

Currently, there is a ban on plastic bags below 50 microns that came into effect after the 2005 deluge, as the material was considered the main reason for choking city drains.
