Traffic department sends communique to educational institutes asking them to avoid chaos before and after school hours

THE traffic division has sent out notices to 363 city schools, requesting them to plan parking systems better, especially just before school commences and after school hours.

This is because traffic disruption is at its peak during these hours with parents lining up to drop and pick up children.

"About 95 schools do not have parking space. And 75 schools, despite having an open space, do not allow any vehicles to be parked," said a senior official from the Traffic division.
"We have told them to chalk out plans to curb parking issues," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic division) Manoj Patil.

"We have a common ground for all schools, and it is difficult for us to convert it into parking space during closing hours," said Lily B Patel, principal, Sardar Dastur Hoshang Boys' High School. The Traffic division has converted traffic from St Vincent School into a one-way lane from 8 am to 4 pm.

Notice says
Vehicles and students be managed during working hours.
This must not affect pedestrians and motorists or cause inconvenience on streets.
Training for students
To curb traffic nuisance outside schools, the traffic division has launched Road Safety Patrol programme for 200 city schools to educate students and officials on traffic safety measures.
Participants will be awarded identity badges, designating them as traffic wardens.
