To implement the new hawkers policy set by Pune Muncipal Corporation (PMC), standing committee of PMC on Monday has given approval to start biometric registration of all the hawkers in the city by allotting Rs 60 lakh to the drive.

Street Smarts: The drive will be conducted over the next two months
The drive is going to held in next two months by registering around 18 thousand hawkers in the city. &ldquo;The biometric registration drive will be coordinated by all 15 ward offices. On every hawker PMC will spend Rs 84.80,&rdquo; Vishal Tambe, PMC standing committee chairman said.

As many owners of roadside stalls have given their outlet on rent, it is difficult to identify actual owners of the stall.&nbsp;&ldquo;We have compiled data of hawkers having licences. For others we will consider one who&rsquo;s present at the stall as the owner of that outlet,&rdquo; Tambe told.
Asked what are the plans to cover those hawkers, who open their temporary handcarts in the late evening slot, Tambe said that ward offices have to decide the schedule of the survey and have the responsibility to register all the hawkers in their jurisdiction.
