A massive cordon and search operation has been launched to find the terrorists behind the attack on a passenger bus in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in nine fatalities and forty-one injuries, Officials said on Monday.

The officials said, National Investigation Agency (NIA), State Investigation Agency (SIA), and the Forensic department visited the spot of the terror attack and began the investigation.

Terrorists opened fire on a 53-seater pilgrim bus on Sunday when it was traveling from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, which is located close to Teryath hamlet in the Poni district. After the gunfire, the bus fell into the deep gorge.

While visiting injured patients at GMC and Narayana hospitals on Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the terrorist attack was a part of a sinister plot to sow discord in the Jammu area. He said that such attempts will be foiled, as reported by PTI.

In order to get firsthand information on the incident, senior commanders from the Army and the Director General of Police (DGP) are expected to visit the scene.

According to officials, security troops from the Army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have erected a multi-layered cordon around the Teryath-Poni-Shiv Khori area, which borders the Rajouri district.

According to reports from PTI, Protests against Pakistan erupted in the Jammu region, particularly in the districts of Kathua, Doda town, and Katra, and they demanded more security to stop these kinds of crimes.

Alleging that Pakistan is funding terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the demonstrators called for action against their neighbor.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday expressed grief over the death of nine people in an attack by terrorists on a bus with pilgrims on board in Jammu and Kashmir, and demanded an investigation into the incident.

Taking to X, Banerjee said, "Learnt that there has been an incident of attack on some pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir, and there have been consequently 9 deaths. The matter should be immediately investigated into. I convey my profound condolences to the victim families."
