He stabbed Kumavat with a chopper and fled with the booty comprising cash and other valuables, CCTV cameras and the recording unit. &ldquo;While fleeing, the robber took away the cameras and the recorder, along with the valuables,&rdquo; said Rajendra Chavan, senior police inspector, V P Road police station. Shop owner S Bapna, who is currently out of town, had recently hired Kumavat. The police are now awaiting Bapna&rsquo;s return so the exact value of the loot can be ascertained. &ldquo;The incident took place around 9 am following which Kumavat was rushed to G T Hospital and is said to be out of danger. CCTV footage could have made things easy for us, but we will now have to check records of history-sheeters, or employees, if we suspect their involvement in the crime,&rdquo; said another officer. When MiD DAY contacted him, Bapna said, &ldquo;I have learnt about the robbery and I am on my way to Mumbai. I will have to check the documents to determine the exact worth of the stolen goods.&rdquo; CCTV advantage In the past, CCTV cameras have helped the police solve crucial cases. For instance, the 13/7 bomb blast case, where the footage recorded by the CCTV is prime evidence for the police to prove the case against the arrested accused. Moreover, CCTV cameras have also helped the L T Marg police solve several theft and robbery cases that had taken place in Zaveri Bazaar area.
