Rationalist Sreedhara Murthy says astrologers exploit the gullible |
Astrologers had predicted pregnant women would have miscarriages during yesterday's eclipse, but MiD DAY found it was just a false alarm.
Shreya, minding the labour ward at Bowring Hospital, said, "Between 6.30 and 7.30 am, we saw eight deliveries. All normal. No one had any problem."
The private hospitals had a slightly different story to tell.
In Jayanagar, Sagar Apollo Hospital and The Cradle, which offer posh maternity services, did not deliver any babies last morning.
The last delivery at Sagar Apollo was at 5 pm on Tuesday. The next took place at 2 pm yesterday. It was not clear if the predictions had scared off their clientele.
