The five-star eatery is going the fast food way and has launched a thali they promise to whip up under 10 minutes, or you get 50% discount on the meal. Everybody is pressed for time today: In tiny hamlets spread around the Konkan belt, restaurants run out of homes by local families serve unlimited steaming hot thalis on banana leaves. Ananda Solomon, Corporate Chef, Taj Premium Hotels and Executive Chef, Taj President, loved this concept and came up with the 10-minute Thali. "The only thing that we have altered is that instead of being served on banana leaves, the diners are served food in copper plates." Via this offer, it's not just the corporate crowd that the thalis are luring in, but also families who want to opt for healthier food. Chef Solomon stresses that the idea is a big hit, primarily because people are pressed for time. "The eating habits of people have changed throughout the world. At Konkan Cafe, we are just keeping up with the times," he said. What's to eat: Take your pick from unlimited Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian or Seafood Thalis. The Vegetarian Thali includes a starter, gravy and a dry vegetable preparation with a combination of Sambhar, Rasam and Masala Bhaat. The Non-Vegetarian Thali replaces the veggies with the Malabar Chicken Masala while the Seafood Thali whips up Fried Fish, Curdee Mango (prawn with raw mangoes), and Mangalorean Fish Curry. Pick from Jalebi, Kulfi and Rice Payasam for dessert, and end the meal with a Meetha (sweet) or Saada (plain) Paan.
