US grants India six-month exemption from sanctions on Iran’s Chabahar port

The US has granted India a six-month exemption from sanctions on Iran’s Chabahar port, the MEA said. The decision follows talks between both nations after the earlier one-month relief expired. India, a key partner in Chabahar’s development, aims to use the port to strengthen regional trade and connectivity with Iran and Central Asia

The US has granted India a six-month exemption from sanctions on the Chabahar port in Iran, the External Affairs Ministry (MEA) said on Thursday. 

The sanctions were to come into effect from September 29 but following talks between the two sides, an exemption of one month was granted. The fresh exemption of the six-month period will be effective from October 29.
