Raebareli: The 19-year-old woman, who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her in 2017, is in critical condition after she met with an accident on Sunday. She is undergoing treatment at Lucknow's King George's Medical University. The woman from Unnao, her two aunts and their advocate were on their way to meet her uncle, who is lodged in a Rae Bareli jail in a separate case, when a speeding truck hit their car. The accident killed her aunts, leaving her and the advocate critically injured, police had said.
The incident found its echo in Parliament with SP member Ram Gopal Yadav Monday alleging an attempt was made to "kill" the rape victim, leading to brief adjournment of Rajya Sabha. Yadav said the security personnel provided to her was not with the victim at the time of the accident. Superintendent of Police M P Verma denied having any knowledge of why the victim was not accompanied by the bodyguards though security cover has been provided to them. "An inquiry has been ordered to look into the reasons as to why the security personnel were not present with her and action will be taken after getting a report," Verma said. Sengar, the prime accused in the rape case, was booked for murder along with nine others on Monday after the rape survivor's mother alleged the accident was a conspiracy to wipe out her family.
