Electricity consumption in Maharashtra has surged by 10 per cent and has reached a peak of 28000 MW, but the state was maintaining regular supply and planned to buy 760 MW from Gujarat at higher rates, state minister Prajakt Tanpure said on Monday.

The minister of state for energy told reporters the state was buying power at an average price of Rs 8 per unit and would continue to do so to give relief to people amid a scorching summer.
