An Israeli airstrike hit a building in Toul, located in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon, on Thursday, May 22. According to Lebanon’s state news agency NNA, the strike came after the Israeli military had issued a warning for people to evacuate the area. The building targeted had already been damaged in an earlier Israeli attack. After the strike, thick smoke was seen rising as locals gathered around and fire trucks arrived at the scene. Earlier this month, Israeli forces carried out 14 airstrikes in the Nabatieh region, making it one of the most intense attacks in the area since a ceasefire was agreed in November. That truce had been brokered by the United States. Back in April, Israel also targeted a building in southern Beirut, claiming it was being used by Hezbollah to store precision-guided missiles. The ceasefire between Lebanon and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group was meant to stop the fighting and ensure that southern Lebanon remained free of Hezbollah fighters and weapons.
