Bangalore blues

In the 1980s, there was a weekly musical evening in Cubbon Park. The (non-commercial) sponsors, organised petromaxes, a drum set and an amplifier. Anyone was welcome to perform. The audience sat around eating chaat and sipping booze, under the evening sky. Theu00a0 sickly, sweet smell of 'grass' wafted with the breeze.

The music was Popu00a0and Rock, some improvised on the spot. I wonder what songs they would sing today, ifu00a0 the music strip were still permitted by law. For example, perhaps, a musical revue about Bangalore, like this rough sketch.

Based on musicals of the past, with relevant and contemporary lyrics. It is provisionally called... BANGALORE BLUES.

The opening chorus 'Bangalore City', is based on the Ventures' 'Kansas City. Sung by a dude with a guitar. Blues style.

I'm going to Bangalore City.../IT City here I come.../Yeah I'm going to IT city/Bangalore City here I come../They've got those crazy dotcom billions there/And I'm going to get me some//

Well I'm going to Bangalore City.../Bangalore City here I come.../Yeah I'm visiting 'Pub City'/Beers and mocktails here I come/They've got some crazy little women there/and I'm going to get me one/

Finale Bangalore City, IT City/Garden City, Garbage City,/Fashion City, Explo City/Here we c..o..o..o..me.

A Hard Day's Night

It's been a hard day's night/And I've been working round the clock/(Repeat)/But when I get up to go/Everybody says no/We're gonna be..e..ee all right/

Weekend Song

The Sound of......The Malls are alive/With the sound of shopping/Everyone's here/And some are out pub hopping/The Malls are alive/With the sound of 'NOXes/Forget days gone by when/You made out in cinema boxes//

My heart longs to... etc

The Street Where I Live

I have often walked/down this street before/But the pavement always stayed/Beneath my feet before/All at once am I/Staring at the sky/Lying flat on the street/Where I live//

People stop and stare/I don't bother them/They're so used to accidents/And careless may..y..hem//
Someone stole the stones/People break their bones/Walking here on the street where I live

Yesterday

Yesterday/This was such a lovely place to play/Now I wish that I were far away/Oh how I long for yesterday//Suddenly/I'm not half the man I used to be/My salary's been cut by 50G/Oh! how I long for Yesterday/

Bang-gal-lore

(as in 'Su-per-star')
Chorus Bang-gal-ore.../Su-per-star/Why are you, what are you struggling for (Repeat)/Everytime I look at you/I don't understand/Why you let the situation/get so out of hand/You'd have made it better if/you'd had it planned/Oh! Oh! Oh! and/stuck to the plan/
And so on...
