Contesting the Lok Sabha polls for the first time, each MNS candidate garnered an impressive one lakh plus votes. In three constituencies in the state, including the formidable South Mumbai constituency, the MNS came second. In all the other constituencies, it took a respectable third position with a small difference in the number of votes. What makes the performance of the MNS special is that the party is only three years old. It means that the party has struck a chord with the people within a short span of time.
The large number of votes for the MNS is an indication that a majority of people have accepted the party's ideology of preference for the locals and safeguarding the culture of the state. What distinguishes the MNS from other parties with a similar agenda is their party chief,u00a0 Raj Thackeray. With extraordinary oratory skills, strong leadership abilities and charisma that is only matched by his illustrious uncle, Bal Thackeray, Raj is the magnet that attracts people, especially the youth, to the MNS.
The sea of humanity that converged on his political rallies and then translated into votes is an indication of his growing popularity amongu00a0 the masses. Considering its praiseworthy performance in theseu00a0 elections, one can only imagine the impact the MNS will have in the forthcoming Assembly polls. What the party needs to do now is use this momentum to its advantage. It should respond to the faith shown by the people by doing some good work for the benefit of all Mumbaikars.
If they manage to do that, they can be assured that more people will flock to their party and they will be the reigning Sena in the state.
