Much ado about climate change

Enjoying?

" ufffdYes, thank you!"

"So what happened?"

"Well, I asked mum to make motorshootir kochoori and she said she was getting late for school and I should have omelette and toast instead. I stuck to my guns ufffd"

"And now you are having a corn and peas sandwich. How does it compare?"

"Well it's the principle of the thing."

"She is?"

"What?"

"Your mum. Is she the principal?"

"No she isn't! It's not like I asked for onion pakodas or some other such exotic fare! Anyway! So how are you spending your Christmas?"

"No exciting plans. My cousin had suggested we go to London, but now it's dead and buried, under all that snow that is."

"Same with Paris. Not that I had a trip planned."

"It's funny that the effects of global warming become apparent only during winters and monsoons. I mean I don't particularly enjoy the searing heat in summers, but unless the heavens come down in the form of rain or snow, people don't take much notice."

"Pass me the chocolate shake please! Thanks! You know Modi has released a book on climate change?"

"Lalit Modi!"

"Narendra Modi. Why on earth ufffd"

"Well I'm not sure what he has been doing lately, except travelling a lot I guess. So I thought ufffd"

"Apparently Dr Abdul Kalam, who released the book, is quite inspired by it."

"Wasn't Pachauri there?"

"Of course he was. Did you know he is a poet?"

"I did. What's it called? Modi's book that is."

"Something like 'Convenient Action: Gujarat's Response to Climate Change', I believe."

"Whoa! Is it a riposte to Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' you think?"

"Not a baseless surmise I would have to say. But I suggest you buy it to be certain, because I don't plan to."

"Do you have something against Modi?"

"Of course not! He is one of the best administrators in the country. I've been to Gujarat and I can tell you that roads in the middle of Kutch are in far better shape than Delhi's highways. No, I have basically stopped reading since I began writing."

"That's obvious to those who read your column. Hand me the fork please! Dude! You could have cut me!"
